NTDC’s 500kv Line Trips Causes Power Breakdown in most parts of Pakistan Technical Fault in National Grid’s Transmission Causes Tripping at KE’s Generation Plants: KE

Karachi, 25th January 2015: K-Electric issued a statement in which the company has clarified that the breakdown of 500KV transmission line of National Transmission Dispatch Company (NTDC) was the reason of the breakdown in major areas of Pakistan including Karachi.

K-Electric explained that tripping of NTDC transmission line had a cascading effect, resulted in tripping of KE’s generation plants.

KE’s spokesperson explained that the utility immediately requested NTDC to provide minimum 10MW power at 12:30 AM in order to give start up power to Bin Qasim power station. This would have brought Karachi online much earlier and would have also helped NTDC in bringing HUBCO immediately. Unfortunately, our request was delayed till around 3:00AM.

In response to the delay, KE’s operations team sprung into action and worked diligently. NTDC provided the backup line around 3AM, however by this time K-Electric’s own team had begun its restoration process on island mode and managed to successfully restore electricity in some parts of Karachi.

He further said that KE’s team worked with remarkable effectiveness and normalized the entire Karachi at 6:15 am.

Spokesperson for KE added, “We sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience caused by this nationwide breakdown”.

KE management sincerely thanked Governor Sindh, Chief Minster Sindh and Federal Secretary Water & Power for their support to KE during this country-wide power breakdown situation.
