Non-Payment of Dues: K-Electric disconnects 15 out of 25 Connections provided to different Post Offices

Karachi (October 23, 2014): K-Electric took stringent action against defaulting post offices by disconnecting their power supply. The decision came into effect after several post offices of the city failed to clear the power utility dues for a long period of time.

In its press statement, KE said that electricity bills were due on 25 different connections provided to the post offices. Hence, these post offices owe the utility company more than Rs. 4.6 million. According to the KE spokesperson, “the Company had issued several notices to the post offices, but the defaulters didn’t pay any heed to the warnings and failed to paying their dues. Therefore, out of a total of 25, 15 connections were disconnected.”

The statement further added that the unpaid dues to KE have exceeded more than Rs.112 billion in amount which is owed by different federal and provincial government organizations. Federal government is liable to pay Rs. 102 billion to KE whereas provincial government is accountable to pay more than Rs. 11 billion.

KE hopes that federal and provincial authorities will show some seriousness towards clearing their dues. KE also urges the government to ensure full cooperation in settling the due amount at the earliest possible time.
