KESC commences distribution of 2.7 million free energy savers under umbrella of Prime Minister’s Energy Saving Program to reduce power consumption by 107MWs across Karachi

KARACHI, Dec 23: Karachi Electric Supply Company, in line with its Climate Change Policy, started the landmark program of distributing 2.7 million energy savers free of cost among Karachi’s domestic consumers on Monday.

The energy savers conserve 70 per cent electricity as compared to the usage of ordinary bulbs, besides having longer life and environment friendly effects. The launching ceremony of this energy efficient program was held at KESC offices and the guest of honor was the legendary socialite and writer Madame Fatima Surriya Bajiya, who has received numerous awards of excellence in recognition of her tremendous services. She admired and upheld the initiative taken by KESC in line of the Government’s Energy Saving Scheme

Other participants of the ceremony included Syed Muhammad Taha, Chief Distribution Officer; Asif Hussain Siddiqui, Director-Energy Conservation Imran Aslam Khokhar, DCDO; Arshad Iftikhar Deputy. Director; Muhammad Rashid, Deputy. Director; Kamran AKhtar Hashmi, Deputy Director and other officers of KESC.

At the end of the project the company would be saving 107MWs across Karachi that would also be offsetting the supply and demand gap and reduction in the carbon foot prints on sustainable basis to protect the environment

Under the program launched as part of the Prime Minister’s Nationwide Energy Saving initiative, KESC would provide two Compact Florescent Lamps, generally called Energy Saver of 23 watts to each domestic consumer, who would be required to hand over two used working Incandescent Lamps (ICLs) commonly called yellow bulbs of 40, 60 or 100 watts along with the complete requirement mentioned in the CFL receiving voucher printed in the monthly Electricity Bills
