Karachi, December 10, 2014: K-Electric through its press statement has warned users of illegal hook connections that the company is committed in ending the menace of electricity theft, as it continues to work on its Anti-Theft Campaign across the city. KE took stern action against Kunda infestation in the area of SITE where more than 1000 illegal hook connections were removed from KE’s pole-mounted transformers (PMTs).
The press statement added that such operations are difficult to conduct for the organization since the residents of such areas resort to violence and threats and create hurdles for the company for their campaign.
KE said that similarly in this instance they faced resistance from the defaulters and illegal hook users of SITE area, but despite the confrontation by the area people, the illegal connections were removed. Giving details the press statement added that apart from the 1000 Hook connections, other equipment including 48 Meter 35mm2 cable used to set-up these hook connections were confiscated and also taken into custody.
It is pointed out that the consumers of 20 PMTs in SITE area owed the utility company millions of rupees while the recovery ratio of monthly bills has fallen very low. The statement explained that apart from the heavy outstanding, Illegal Hook connections have increased the load on the PMTs and become a cause of tripping feeders and technical faults.
KE’s spokesperson said, “Despite the odds, the company is determined to eradicate this menace from the city. We hold such anti-theft drives almost on a daily basis but for our mission to fully succeed we need the co-operation of the citizenry. In this case, we are grateful to the consumers for notifying the company of electricity theft worth Rs. 5.8 million in the month of November through the organization’s Speak Up campaign.”
KE’s spokesperson expressed the hope that residents of other high-loss areas in the city will bring a positive change by discontinuing kunda culture as well as helping curb power-theft in their areas. KE encourages its customers to step up and record their complaints against illegal electricity users, as the company will responsibly hold the anonymity of the complainant.
