KE asks defaulters of Lines Area to pay their dues instead of protesting;3 PMTs disconnected due to low recovery & illegal connections

Karachi, September 4, 2014 K- Electric has expressed great dismay over the recent protests held by the defaulters of Lines Area who have huge outstanding bills and are involved in power theft through illegal hook connections in their respective area. K Electric disconnected power supply to 3 different PMTs in lines area as these PMTs have a total of PKR 60 million outstanding and have a paying ratio as low as 12% which is intolerable.

KE would like to tell these defaulters and so-called innocent protestors that they need to pay their outstanding bills and stop stealing electricity in order to get their power supply restored.

K – Electric stated that because of the huge outstanding amount against the faulty PMTs which were also overloaded due to high ratio of electricity theft; repair or replacement work could not be undertaken unless the defaulting consumers clear their dues and support the utility’s efforts to bring down power theft. KE Spokesman said, “It would not be possible for us to supply them new PMTs or repair the faulty ones unless their dues are cleared.

KE through its press statement has also said that these protests will not resolve anything and that these customers had been approached many times by the representatives of the power utility, but these defaulting consumers chose to use illegal connections instead of clearing dues and paying their monthly bills. Non-payment of such huge amounts always impact the utility’s smooth performance. K-Electric had already announced its decision not to repair or replace such overloaded and theft ridden PMTs unless outstanding bills were cleared and power theft was curbed.
