K-Electric’s Operation Burq Team continues to Remove Illegal Connections

65 raids conducted in Orangi, Lyari, Clifton, Bahadurabad, Saddar, Garden, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-E-Iqbal, Uthal and Site: Spokesperson

Karachi, March 7, 2016: K-Electric has released details about its on-going Operation Burq campaign against power thieves and defaulters and according to these details the KE team seized around 6000 illegal connections weighing around 850kg during 65 raids in different areas of the city.

The press statement added that the team disconnected 1500 connections which had dues over Rs. 10 Crores in the areas of Orangi, Lyari, Uthal, Baldia and SITE. Moreover, 1,380 connections were disconnected on dues worth Rs. 9 Crores in the areas of Defence, Bahadurabad, Tipu Sultan, Garden, Saddar, and Clifton. Similarly, 1796 connections were disconnected in the areas of Gulshan e Iqbal, Liaquatabad, North Karachi, New Karachi, Surjani, Federal B Area, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, on dues of more than Rs. 160 Million.

In another raid, a residential consumer of Gadap Area was caught red handed and was penalized on the spot. KE team along with law-enforcement agencies pulled down 2500 illegal connections in different vicinities including Awami Colony, P&T Colony, Gulshan-E-Bilal, Gulzar Colony, Faqeer Goth Sector-15, Aurgas PMT, Shafi Tannery Sec-7/A, Kele wali PMT Sec-15, near Maza Factory Sec-15 and Mehran Town Korangi.

KE’s spokesperson said, “We have carried out many raids till now and seized hundreds of illegal connections across the city during this operation. We have set an example through our operation that power theft will not go unnoticed like any other crime. We urge our consumers who resort to electricity theft, to help us end this menace so that they too could reap benefits of load-shed exemption”
