K-Electric organizing weeklong tree plantation campaign, awareness sessions on the eve of Earth Day

KARACHI, April 17: K-Electric, formerly KESC, in line with its vision of “climate change”, has planned weeklong activities to celebrate the global event of Earth Day falling on April 22. Starting April 17, awareness sessions and tree plantation ceremonies would be held till the final day when the main event will be organized at KE’s flagship electricity generation site, Bin Qasim Power Station-II.

Under the umbrella of ‘Environment protection activities’, the Energy Conservation Department plans to plant more than 500 trees in-house and outreach during the week. Theme of the Earth Day is climate change, clean energy and tree plantation. Motivating messages mainly based on the topics of “using energy wisely and avoid wastage, planting a tree in our surrounding, segregating the trash for recycling, and, getting our cars tuned up to ensure no carbon is emitted from them” would be sent across.

KE has planned various activities to serve the cause including tree plantation at its main offices and installations. Also, there would be presentation and tree plantation at NED University; debate and tableau at Alternative and Renewable Energy Educational Park; interactive session and tree plantation at the Ehteshaam Govt School, Zaheer Public School, Govt. Boys Secondary School, and, FG public school (Manora Island).

Earth Day is a global event celebrated since 1970. Coordinated by the Earth Day Network the event is observed in more than 192 countries by more than a billion people around the globe. Numerous communities celebrate the Earth Week especially in educational institutions participated by youth counseling them about the adverse effects of global warming, increasing day by day.
