Karachi: 15th March, 2018 – K-Electric is set to launch the first KE Girls’ Football League at the KPT Sports Complex in Karachi making this the first ever corporate backed women’s football league. This initiative is aimed at encouraging participation of women in sports and comes after the recent launch of the first ever boxing tournament for women which received a massive response.
The opening ceremony will be held on the 16th of March and would kick off with an exhibition match dedicated to the late Shahlyla Baloch, the young forward who represented Pakistan’s national football team but unfortunately passed away in a tragic road accident.
The tournament is in collaboration with the Naseem Hameed Football Academy and the exciting event comprises of 8 teams from different areas of Karachi. The participating teams include: Naseem Hameed Football Academy, Aga Khan Gymkhana, Young Muslim Women Football Club, Marta Women Football Club, Karachi Kickers Football Academy, Mohsin Gilani Football Academy, Elite Sports Academy and the Social Bond.
Spokesperson K-Electric said, “More than 128 young female footballers are competing for the title which is massive achievement for women’ sports. The 8 teams would be divided in 2 groups and the league’s closing ceremony would be held on the 26th of March at the same venue.”

By organizing this football league, the utility company has created a strong platform for these girls to develop their potential and acquire new skills. It strongly advocates the fostering of emerging talents, while it channels the positive energy of the new generation who will go on to represent the national colors in future.
K-Electric’s men’s football team is the current Pakistan Premier League Champion and its players have not only gone on to represent Pakistan but the likes of KE’s very own Essa Khan had captained the Pakistan football team for a number of years.
