K-Electric Continues Stringent Crackdown Against Power Thieves and Defaulters

Karachi, October 20th, 2021: As part of its effort to provide safe and reliable electricity, K-Electric has taken stringent action against power theft and the defaulters in the vicinity of North Nazimabad, Shah Faisal Colony, and Malir.

According to the details, power supply was disrupted in the targeted areas of Shah Faisal Colony, North Nazimabad and Siddiq Goth over non-payment of electricity dues. After which the residents as well as Members of Provincial and National Assemblies representing the areas reached out to the utility and assured to clear the unpaid dues within stipulated time. The power was restored after receiving assurances.

In another action taken against power theft and illegal kunda infestation, the utility removed around 120 illegal connections in Kala Board Christian Colony situated in Malir where the power theft had reached to 66% along with outstanding dues of PKR 162 Million. The power entity had also informed the representatives of the locality prior to conducting the anti-theft drive who agreed upon setting up recovery camps by the utility to clear the outstanding electricity bills and for conversion of illegal connections to metered connections.

The utility faced strong resistance from defaulters and power thieves in those areas. A mob also attacked KE’s grid station situated in North Nazimabad where the percentage of electricity bill payment is less than 50% and unpaid dues have reached to over PKR 650 Million.

The representative of K-Electric while condemning the attack, appealed to the law enforcement agencies to ensure protection of the utility’s staff, and its infrastructure. He further added that the power utility is committed to ensuring efficient power supply to the city and appeals to its customers to report power theft incidents and ensure timely payment of electricity bills which will help the utility in serving them better.
