K-Electric condemns attack on its team in Manghopir; 2 employees injured while removing illegal poles

KARACHI, April 1: K-Electric (formerly KESC) has strongly condemned the violent mob attack on Monday by a group of armed hooligans from Manghopir Colony who wanted to stop the power utility’s team from removing illegally erected poles. Supervisor Muhamad Ali and security in charge Mr Sardar were seriously injured in the attack.

The mobsters also damaged KE’s vehicle, fired shots in the air to terrorize KE members and blocked traffic on the road causing misery for not only the KE team but the general public as well. Police arrived at the scene and rescued the KE team, arrested six culprits and dispersed the hooligans. KE has lodged an FIR against these attackers.

While giving details the press statement said that K-Electric’s team had arrived at Jam Mullah Goth near A One City Manghopir, to remove 22 low-gauge illegal poles usually used for street lights. These poles had been installed on a plot which is illegally occupied by the ‘Qabza Mafia’ whereas the fitting work was near completion as well. These poles would have then been connected illegally by the mafia to KE’s power distribution system.
