KARACHI, Oct 30: Karachi Electric Supply Company on Wednesday conducted a corporate overview session at its Head Office for a group from the National Institute of Management with officials representing different governmental departments as part of the inland study tour of their Mid-Career Management Course.
This is the third consecutive year that KESC has hosted a group from the Institute. The focus of the session was on the turnaround that the KESC has experienced since the change in management in 2008. The visitors appreciated the efforts behind the turnaround and were of the view that KESC has proved to be a role-model of public-private partnership.
A presentation to the visiting team detailed the investments made by the present management, their effectiveness and contribution towards the company’s improved financial position. Also discussed at length were different business strategies that had been implemented to complement the capital expenditure, pertaining to organizational restructuring, stakeholder engagement, tariff structures and strengthened mechanisms to ensure efficiency and accountability.
The presentation was followed by a candid questions and answers session involving a range of issues relevant to the company and the power sector, in general. The group was also given a tour of the SCADA Control Centre located at KESC’s Head Office. KESC’s continued support was appreciated with a memento presented to the company.
KESC being a private sector entity and the only vertically integrated power utility, operating in the largest metropolis of the country proved to be a good case for the visiting participants. The team members took keen interest in acquiring a better understanding of the functioning of KESC and how the utility has progressed post-privatization; especially in reducing its losses, its indiscriminate crackdown against illegal power users and its capital investments in generation and transmission, which has led to the addition of more than 1000 MWs in KESC’s power generation capacity.
