The two-day knock out tournament was organized by KE Ujala Community Development project in association with Mohra Sports Club. Eight teams went head to head in the championship.

The extremely competitive final saw the two best teams of the tournament pitted against each other. Manghopir FC gained the lead in the first half of the match courtesy a corner kick and successfully defended it till the final whistle to claim the championship title this year. A large and enthusiastic crowd of football fans witnessed the hard-fought match. Maaz from Manghopir Union FC was awarded the Man of the tournament award while Wajid from Manghopir Union FC received the award for the best goal keeper of the tournament.

According to Syed Fakhar Ahmed, KE Chief Marketing and Communication Officer, “Manghopir is home to a growing multi-ethnic community with thriving talent and we hope that we can see more players from this tournament develop into the kind of stars that can represent the Pakistan team. KE strongly believes in empowering society and giving back to the community. Being a strong advocate of fostering emerging talent, we will continue our support to channel the positive energy of our youth,” he added.

Fakhar also congratulated the finalists, “I would like to congratulate the victorious team of Manghopir Union as well as the runner-up Hazara United. Everyone played like champions and my commiserations to Hazara United, better luck next time.”

Earlier, several parts of Manghopir had a very high incidence of power theft through kundas and local resistance would challenge K-Electric’s efforts to convert the infrastructure to Aerial Bundled Cables (ABC). So far 34 PMTS have been converted to ABC and more than 5,000 low-cost meters have been installed in Manghopir which are a testament to project Ujala, KE’s flagship community development project. Till date, over 600,000 lives in 72 communities have been benefitted while over 3,100 PMTs have been converted to ABC under the project and post-conversion, the respective areas have shown tremendous progress and experienced noticeable improvement in provision of power supply.
