Karachi – 28 th June, 2014: K-Electric (KE) through its press statement has announced that there will be no load-shedding during Sehri and Iftar in the holy month of Ramadan.
According to the press release, the residential and commercial areas will have uninterrupted power supply during Sehri and Iftar. Also, the major mosques of the city will be exempted from load-shedding during taraweeh in this holy month. Following the gesture in spirit of Ramadan since 2010, KE facilitates the citizens to observe the month of Ramadan with true religious fervor.
Further clarifying about the difference between load-shedding and power outages, KE spokesperson reiterated, “It is important to understand the difference between loads-shedding and faults/tripping. KE is operating through approximately 1,400 feeders scattered over an area as vast as 6,500 sq. km. Moreover, there are about 63 Grid Stations with 2,500 sub-stations which include a total 20,000 PMTs. Covering such a network it is natural if a fault erupts, and there is sometimes a chance of tripping at these grid stations as well that leads to power outages which should not in any way be confused with load-shedding.”
To deal with unfortunate and unforeseen outages, KE’s management has deployed Rapid Response Teams to cope up with faults, whereas 4 regional control rooms have also been set up to monitor the network which will operate 24/7. To facilitate consumers in registering their complaints, 118 Call Centre resources have been beefed up.
KE urged Governor Sindh and Chief Minister Sindh to play their role in bringing the KANUPP plant back before the holy month as it has been facing a technical outage since the last four and a half months. Due to the shutdown of KANUPP, 70MW supply to KE has been suspended.
Moreover, KE encourages its users to play their role in conserving electricity so as to help the greater cause and is also thankful to SSGC for assuring adequate gas pressures to KE’s power plants during the holy month. KE wishes Ramadan Kareem to all the citizens of Karachi in advance.
